This video is what I call ‘crossfire diversion’, where I start away from the dog, and shoot a crossfire diversion over his head while he is in route to the first mark, which he must pick up and bring back to his placeboard, which is a frisbee. The simulated shotgun sound of the Thunder 100, and the movement of the fired dummy launch, is a very big distraction to this dog since he would much rather go after the movement. Dog Training Labrador Retriever – bumper boy

This is another drill that I use to teach steadiness in a working competitive hunt test Labrador Retriever by letting him see the picture of you away from him and having to sit through a few launches, and then rewarding him with a retrieve in the opposite direction. Having the dog maintain a sit away from you gives him a more thorough and complete understanding of ‘steadiness’
